Sunday CLOSEDFor a long time the African woman has been there to be seen, not to be heard. Her voice was never important. She was there to please her husband bear him children and raise them. These are very noble roles, to give life and care for the little soul should indeed be something to be proud of. But this woman hasn’t had her defined worth.
The African woman is a queen, a jewel, she is priceless, but her crown has been trampled in mud, with her crown, her glory, her self respect, her dignity, her self esteem and self worth have gone. She no longer understands it. She has been defined by the society; she has borne the blame for simply being a woman. She has been classified with children and worse still, with property. She has been blamed for being barren or bearing too many children. She has been accused of underfeeding or over feeding her husband. She is blamed when children don’t become what the society envisioned and never appreciated when they are high flying. She is among the majority group in numbers, yet classified as a minority. She is more of a second class citizen. She has been abused, physically, sexually, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Her dignity has been shredded.
At Dignify womanhood initiative, we are working on restoring her dignity by helping define her worth, helping her reclaim her crown, giving her a voice. Our initiative is encouraging her to speak out her concerns, to join in nation building, to come out strong against the ills that ail her. To become an all round human being, who will be able to bring up her daughters (and sons) knowing the value of a woman and respecting womanhood. In this we will boost her standards, making her economically, socially, sexually, emotionally and spiritually empowered, to shine like the jewel she is, and to reign like the queen she is.
We encourage her to be part of the solution by participating in matters of leadership and governance by participating actively in politics and policy formulation Dignify womanhood initiative asks the society to perceive her success as their success, her glory as their glory, and her challenges as their challenges, to harness her strength and her power and grow the community and to celebrate her achievements. Because her success is not their failure but their success, and her strength is not their weakness but their strength. The society, both men and women, are hereby invited to the initiative to dignify womanhood.
To be the NGO that eradicates gender based discrimination, including violence, sexual assault, Economic, political and social discrimination, and to see an Africa where a woman is treated with dignity
We endeavour to provide expertise in our areas of involvement, including legal, social and economic advice and support as will be in our powers to do, to bring cohesion in our communities and equity in opportunities and contributions for both genders.
To ensure the organization has a sustainable competitive advantage by engaging in research to build in depth knowledge in the areas of concern and intimate comprehensive understanding of emerging issues in the areas.
To ensure our women and girls are dignified and empowered to face the challenges that face womanhood in Africa, by involving both men and women in this cause.
To empower the Kenyan woman through advocating for human rights, improve access to education, health care services, water and sanitation and set up institutions to enable economic independence among the women.
To encourage women to participate in the electoral process as candidates and voters in order to achieve the constitutional two thirds majority.
